Docs Bodacious 1990 Bay Stallion
I had a reining mare named Just Mark Her and I decided to breed her. I looked around for a halter type stallion that was siring performance horses, and found Docs Bo Acres. I bred her and the result was Docs Bodacious. I fitted him and then Ralph Martino and I showed him in a few halter futurities. The best was the 1990 Virginia Quarter Horse Association Futurity. It was the largest halter show in the nation that year (yes, bigger and better than Congress). Docs Bodacious won both the Open and the Non-Pro Junior Weanling Colt Futurity (each had 50+ entries). Then we went to NC where we won the Non-Pro and were Reserve in the Open. The following year we went to the Tom Powers and Larry Little showed him for me and we were 4th in the yearling Lunge Line. Next was the Blue Ridge Futurity and with Ralph's help we won the Open and Non-Pro Yearling Stallion and the Yearling Lunge Line Futurity. Next was the NC Futurity, where we won the Non-Pro and were Reserve in the Open Yearling Stallion futurities. He finished the year with 8 open halter points and 9.5 amateur halter points. I ended up that year qualifying him for the 1992 AQHA 2 year old Amateur Stallion class at the world. We were living in Maryland at the time and did not have the facilities to stand him at stud. We contacted Creek Run Vet Clinic, Dr Poag Reid, DVM who was still standing Docs Bo Acres at the time and made arrangements for him to stand Docs Bodacious at stud. We test bred him to 6 mares that year and patiently waited for their arrival. In the meantime, we met Dale Cox and hired him to break Docs Bodacious to ride. Dale did a fantastic job with him and we let him ride him that year and just let Docs Bodacious grow up. When the babies hit the ground in 1993 we were estatic. We knew then that he was stallion material. At that time we entered into a partnership with Poag Reid, DVM on Docs Bodacious. After the 1993 breeding season we sent him to Barb and Billy Prather for Hunter Under Saddle training. He won the SC Hunter Under Saddle Futurity and placed in several others. Along the way he qualified for the 1994 AQHA World show in Hunter Under Saddle. He was shown at the World and had a slight bobble and didn't place. He returned to Dr Reid's place where he began roping on him. He competed on him and won the SC Roping Futurity along with earning several roping points on him. At this time we decided to retire him and just stand him at stud. I retired in 1995 and we sold our farm in Maryland and moved to South Carolina. The farm we purchased just happened to be next door to Creek Run Vet Clinic and as soon as we were able to get the barn and fencing in place we moved Docs Bodacious back to our farm. We continued to stand him at Creek Run Vet Clinic until we dissolved our partnership in 2003 and full ownership of Docs Bodacious returned to us. We then decided to stand Docs Bodacious at Clemson University but kept him at home. Whenever he is needed he hops into the trailer for the short drive to Clemson where because of his good nature and predictability students use him to learn how to collect a stallion. Docs Bodacious is by World Champion Halter Horse Docs Bo Acres. Docs Bodacious is a half brother to such notables as World Champions: Docs Bo Doll, TNT Fluid Fred and Docs Outta Town. Please be sure to see the write up on his offspring. Docs Bodacious' Breeding Fee is $750 with no chute fees. Clemson mare care charges are $10 dry and $12 wet. Ultrasounds are $45 and Palpations are $25. Cool shipped semen is an additional $125 plus FedEx Charges. It gives me great pleasure to be able to look out the window whenever I want and see him in his pasture overlooking our farm. If you get the chance please stop by and see him and some of his babies, we'd love to have you visit.
